Westland Whirlwind (fighter plane) part 3

Yes, we're back at the Whirly for one last time. I have done one more model of the Westland Whirlwind and this time a little different. You could call it a study in aesthetics if you will. I printed another model but now on grey paper and I built it inside out, leaving off the propeller blades, the landing gear and by doing so reducing it just to its basic shape. More pics after the jump.

PS. There is news from the Space Shuttle frontier, more on that next week.

More pics of the build:

The model is cut using the printed template, but glued inside out. So, no lines, no colours, no nothing. Just grey paper and a steadily forming shape. This one was a one-day build and now I know the ins and outs of this model, it came together in just a couple of hours.

This is the kind of glue tabs I make. Sometimes I follow the shape of the curvatures but in this case I use a straight strip and make small cuts in it, one side goes into one end, the bits sticking out will then be bent inward or outward, depending on the next part.

This is the inside of one of the nacelles. Note how the glue strips are placed inside.

A small tab inside the front end of the nacelle will more easily keep the top cap in place.

And that's it, next time we'll continue with the Endeavour.
Thanks for stopping by and having a look.
